P10M El Niño fund sa farmers

Umaabot na sa mahigit sa P10.9 milyong halaga ng tulong pinansyal ang naipagkaloob ng pamahalaan sa mga magsasakang apektado ngayon ng El Niño phenomenon.Sinabi ni Department of Agriculture (DA) Sec.Bernie Fondevilla na mali­ban sa nasabing tulong pinansyal na naghatid na rin ng trabaho ang pamahalaan sa mga magsasaka sa hilagang Luzon ay may ipinatutupad pang ibang programang pansaklolo sa naturang sektor.
Isa rito ay ang utos ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sa National Irrigation Administration (NIA) na magpataw ng moratorium sa pagbabayad ng magsasaka ng 150 kilos ng palay kada ektarya bilang irrigation fees.
Gayundin, iniutos na rin umano ni Arroyo ang pagbabago sa pautang at interest payments ng mga magsasaka na tinamaan ng El Niño at moratorium sa multa mula sa mga government financial institutions tulad ng Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
Idinagdag pa ni Fonde­villa na ang nai-release na halaga ay nasa anyo ng certificates of allocation para sa 426 irrigation pumps na ipamamahagi sa mga magsasaka sa lalawigan ng Cagayan.
Kahapon ay nanawagan si Sen. Manny Villar, kandidato sa pagka-pangulo ng Nacionalista Party (NP), sa pamahalaan ang pagpapalabas ng P20 milyon mula sa pondo ng Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA) upang saklolohan ang mga magsasaka at ma­ngingisdang labis na sinasalanta ng matinding tagtu­yot na patuloy na nananalasa sa mga lalawigan.
